What do I need to bring to sell scrap at Raw Recycling?

All customers must be at least 18 years old and must provide a valid state-issued ID. Customers will need to have their ID scanned and sign a declaration stating they are authorized to sell their material.

What’s the difference between non-ferrous and ferrous metals?

Non-ferrous metals are non-magnetic and do not stick to a magnet. Examples include copper, aluminum, and brass. Ferrous metals are magnetic and will stick to a magnet. Examples include steel and iron.

Do you take aluminum cans?

Will you pick up scrap at my house?

Raw Recycling only provides pick-up services for commercial and industrial clients in the New Jersey area. We do not offer residential pick-up services. However, you are welcome to bring your scrap metal to our facility.

Does Raw Recycling buy appliances like water heaters or furnaces?

Yes, we accept dishwashers, dryers, washing machines, water heaters, furnaces, and radiators. Appliances will be purchased at a light iron scrap price.

Important: We do not accept appliances that contain freon (such as refrigerators and air conditioners) unless the freon has been professionally removed.

Do you recycle TVs, monitors, or flat screens?

No, we do not accept TVs, computer monitors, or flat screens, as they have little to no scrap value. Check with your local municipality for recycling options.

Does Raw Recycling accept junk cars?

Yes, we accept junk cars and offer competitive prices for vehicles. We also provide pick-up services for junk cars. Contact us for more details on selling your vehicle.

What car parts can be scrapped?

We buy certain car parts for recycling only. These include:
• Aluminum rims
• Catalytic converters
• Aluminum hoods and doors
• Brass or aluminum radiators
• Alternators and starters

What is the difference between brass and copper?

Brass has a yellowish color, while copper has a reddish color. If you are unsure, take a file and scratch the surface—if it appears red, it is copper; if yellow, it is brass. Brass is an alloy composed of copper and zinc, making it more durable.

What is the difference between #1, #2, and #3 copper?

#1 Copper: Clean, uncoated copper tubing or wire with no brass fittings, insulation, paint, or solder.
#2 Copper: May have small brass fittings, solder, oxidation, or paint, which makes it worth less.
#3 Copper (Roofing Copper): Often contains tar, adhesives, or other contaminants, making it the least valuable.

Does Raw Recycling buy old pools?

Yes. If your pool is made of aluminum, we will pay for it based on the dirty aluminum price due to paint and attachments. If your pool contains steel, it will be bought as Light Iron.

Does Raw Recycling accept old fences?

Yes, we accept metal fences. Use a magnet test to determine whether your fence is made of aluminum, steel, or iron.

How can I make more money scrapping?

• Separate your metals – Ferrous metals like steel and iron are worth less than non-ferrous metals like copper, aluminum, and brass.
• Use a magnet – A magnet will help you distinguish between ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
• Remove unnecessary materials – Clean your scrap by removing plastic, rubber, and other non-metal attachments to increase value.

Does Raw Recycling take computer parts?

No, we do not accept e-waste.

What are Raw Recycling’s hours?

Monday - Friday: 7:30 am to 4:30 pm
Saturday: 7:30 am to 12:30 pm
Closed on Sundays

Does Raw Recycling accept items with freon inside?

No. Refrigerators, air conditioners, and other appliances containing freon must have the freon removed by a licensed HVAC professional before we can accept them.

Do you pay cash for scrap metal?

Yes, we pay cash for scrap metal. We also provide check payments for larger transactions.

Do you buy cast iron bathtubs or stoves?

Yes, we purchase cast iron bathtubs and stoves.

Do you buy mercury or anything with mercury inside?

No, we do not accept mercury or items containing mercury. Contact your local waste management service for disposal options.

Do you buy brass shell casings from firearms?

Yes, we accept brass shell casings, but they must be spent and completely empty. We do not accept live ammunition.

Do you buy batteries?

Yes, we accept lead-acid batteries, steel case batteries. We do not accept alkaline batteries, Lithium Ion Nicd.
